2nd Berkeley Women in Biz Meetup, Barberella Beauty Lounge

On Monday, February 17th, President's Day, we held a second Berkeley Women* in Biz Meetup with the co-founders of Bloom, Eileen Hanshaw and Ann Wees, at Barberella Beauty Lounge.

The meetup originally began about 8 months ago, potluck-style in our backyard, and friends came out from around and outside the Bay Area, including Oakland, San Francisco, Sacramento, and the Peninsula. Based on an idea Jing contributed at the first meetup, we went around in a circle and shared the skills, expertise, and resources that we offer and those that we desire, either to grow our businesses or to develop our personal interests and professional growth. 

Gardening with Rivka Mason, Malcolm X Elementary School Garden, Berkeley

I visited Rivka Mason today at the Malcolm X Elementary School Garden in Berkeley, where she’s been teaching edible gardening to kids for 22 years. Her curriculum includes the life sciences, ecology, and nutrition, and one of today’s lessons focused on the water cycle. The kids took part in many activities, from learning how to add compost to the garden to making “burritos” with the collard greens they harvested.

Podcast Interview: The Creators of "Carnal Orient"

Actress/producer, Camille Mana, recently sat down to interview the creators of "Carnal Orient," a short avant-garde music video project exploring the 'nightmarish undertones' of Asian fetish.

With less than one month left to raise funding on Kickstarter, the project, which launched on Kickstarter in May and was featured in Bust Magazine, is a collaboration between Mila Zuo, a PhD candidate in film studies at UCLA, Angela Seo of art-rock band Xiu Xiu, and Mana as producer.

The Fisher Family, Exposition Rose Garden

Stephanie and I met living on the same floor of the dorms our freshman year at CAL, and later lived together sophomore year at a funny Berkeley student co-op called Cloyne. I ran into her recently at Sarah and Anthony's wedding, where I had a chance to meet her husband Jesse and their adorable 8 month old son, Sullivan. I documented them this November at the Exposition Rose Garden, where Steph used to visit as a young girl with her family.
